When Darkness Consumed Me - Part I

“Throw him in the dungeon, that’s his reward,
For failing to protect his men from the enemy’s sword.
The men no more have faith, in his highness,
He deserves an agonizing death for being so careless.”

After declaring this the commander walked out,
Ensured that I was now completely shutout.
The balance of authority had now been shifted,
In his evil hands the fate of my kingdom rested.

His strategy to take over was absolutely flawless,
Deteriorate my command from inside the fortress.
For when an enemy invades your territory,
The last thing one expects is domestic treachery.

Once an emperor satiated with jaunty jabber,
Now imprisoned by the man I trusted as commander.
Once an apple of every subject’s eye,
Now abandoned in this darkness to rot and die.
