I am an unwilling soldier, succumbed into this war,
Unable to understand the reason, I am fighting for.
Countless men are killed; no one gives it a thought,
For if one doesn’t shoot, he’ll end up being shot.
On the battlefield, men fight till their last breath,
While the king is in his fortress, ignorant of their death.
They say it’s for the glory, and honor of the king,
Why don’t I see the glory? Why am I suffering?
Once the war is over, the emperor conquers new land,
It boosts his significance, increases his demand.
All the soldiers get, if they outlast this nightmare,
Are a few shallow praises, and a battered soul in despair.
Declare me as a weakling, accuse me of treason,
But I can’t march forward, Until I find a reason.
After a lot of thought, I lay my weapons down,
I don’t want to struggle, for some imprudent clown.
wow! awesome!! really like the way it follows.
ReplyDeleteIn-Fucking-Credible!!!!
ReplyDelete"I shot him dead because --
ReplyDeleteBecause he was my foe,
Just so: my foe of course he was;
That's clear enough; although
"He thought he'd 'list, perhaps,
Off-hand like -- just as I --
Was out of work -- had sold his traps --
No other reason why.
"Yes; quaint and curious war is!
You shoot a fellow down
You'd treat if met where any bar is,
Or help to half-a-crown"
Reminded me of this poem by Thomas Hardy.. your subtle, yet piercing depiction is commendable!
Agrees!
ReplyDeleteJitu.. I am curious!! Did you borrow those shades from Bappi Lahiri?? Bheeeery Kool!
ReplyDelete@srishti: Thanx.. :)
ReplyDelete@DJ: Nah didn't borrow them from Bappi Lahiri... Borrowed them from u if u forgot.. :P
I think its great! Told with a deep sense of emotion.. I loved the last part where the soldier decides to give up the war.. A li'l dramatic, but yet very identifiable with oneself..
ReplyDeleteMade me think about all the conflicts i've been a part of, which did everything but help solve the real problem! And of course, another thing that "this" brings with it is a sad ending.. And I hate sad endings!
